Choosing A Graphics Card for your computer

So your ready to upgrade the graphics on your computer, Or deciding you need a graphics card in the first place? I am going to help you in choosing a graphics card that best suits your PC or laptop. Graphics cards not only help visuals on your computer but they also make your computer run faster, and smoother in preforming almost every task. So weather you want to play The newest game with the best graphics setting or simply have a faster smoother running computer.   A graphics card will help you a lot, So lets look at some things to look for...

First off when choosing a graphics card we need to know what we are looking for, by this I mean, are you just wanting one that will help support some older, games or just some games on lower graphics setting, and your not too worried about a little bit of lagging? then you probably want something inexpensive but not too bad, your looking in about the $50-$75 Canadian to get the graphics card that will preform like that.  Or are you looking for a graphics card that can preform almost every game with very little to no lag, and a graphics card that will speed up your computer then what you want is a graphics card that has at least 512mb dedicated ram, as well as a graphics card that supports Direct-X 9 or higher.  Price range of about $90-$200 Or is what your looking for a high end do it all graphics card that you wont have to replace for years, will preform everything on the highest graphics setting, with no lag, and makes your computer run amazingly?  Then what you want is a graphics card with at least 1gb dedicated graphics memory, and supports Direct-Z 10 or 11 (only 2 graphics cards at this time support direct-x 11) and you are looking in the price range of $200-$500  Now When looking at the mid to high end graphics cards you need to know what you are getting, and here is what you need to pay attention to:

1. Pay attention to how much dedicated memory there is, Meaning is there 255mb? 512mb? Or 1gb? or more? 512mb is pretty average for a graphics card, and will preform quite well, But 1gb Is amazing.
2. does the graphics card support at least direct-x 9? If it does not do not consider buying it, But if you are spending over $150 I would expect direct-x10 support on your graphics card.
3. you want to pay attention to the number they call it, like 550 or 960 Usually a higher number means better in the graphics card department.
4. Do you want HD? Or regular? if you are purchasing an HD graphics card do not expect a high number like 960, But ore like 460-560

One last thing to keep in mind when choosing a graphics card is are you buying it for a laptop or a desktop? Remember Certain graphics cards are only compatible with Either a desktop or a laptop

So you know how to choose a graphics card now, are you ready to buy one? I hope so.
