How to make your laptop battery last longer

Many people have purchased laptops thinking that the battery will last 6 hours or 8 hours or however long the packaging of the laptop says the battery will last, but they soon discover that the battery is only lasting a few hours, 2-3 or 4 hours if they have a high end battery, there is a reason for this the companies selling you the laptop computers are not lying.   The main reason that this is happening is because the 6 hours that the laptop battery is meant to last, is in the best case scenario.

Now what this means is:

1. Your laptop screen brightness is set to a minimum, requiring less battery power, allow your laptop battery to last longer, but who really want an extremely dark screen to look at?  You should be able to see your laptop screen without a problem.

2.  You are not using anything that has high graphics or ram requirements, meaning gaming, video editing, etc.  But hows that help If you want to play games on your laptop?


3. You are not using the back-lit keyboard.  This will drain power from your laptop computers batteries.

4. Sound / Music, if you are listening to music, or sound from anything, this will affect the battery life of your laptop.

If you are not doing any of that, then the laptops battery may last its full claimed time, there are a few other minor variables, but thous are the main reasons your laptop is only lasting a few hours.

So what you can do to help make your laptop battery last longer is:

1.  Set the screen brightness a little lower then you usually have it, so that you can still see everything fine, this will save lot of battery power.

2.  If you are gaming or doing any high requirement things on you laptop, it is best to have an energy efficient graphics card.

3.  If you need to use the lights on the keyboard, then use them, but don't leave the keyboard lights on your laptop on unless necessary.

4.  The quieter you listen to your music the less battery power your laptop will use, so unless you need to blare it, don't.

What this means, if you are getting a laptop be prepared for it to not last as long as it says it will, for the average person a laptop battery will only last about half as long as the company who makes the laptop claims.

This means you may want to get a 9 or even a 12 cell battery so that of  they are claiming the laptop batteries will last 12 hours, at least your good for 6 hours :P

So I highly recommend making sure you laptop has a high quality battery, that doesn't need to be charged every 5 minutes, cause what good is a laptop if you have to plug it in?   So again get a laptop battery that last 2 times as long as you actually want the battery to last.
